Beading Is Not the Same Thing as Spot Proof
A hydrophobic coating makes water bead into tight droplets and run off surfaces more easily than it would on bare paint, which is real and useful. But beading only helps while the water is still moving. Once droplets are left to sit and evaporate on their own, whatever was dissolved in that water stays behind on the surface regardless of how hydrophobic the coating is underneath it.
What Is Actually Left Behind
Tap and irrigation water almost everywhere carries dissolved minerals, mainly calcium and magnesium. The water itself evaporates, the minerals do not, and they crystallise into the small white or cloudy marks known as water spots. This has nothing to do with whether the surface underneath is coated, waxed or bare paint, it is simply what hard water leaves behind when it is allowed to dry in place.
Why a Hot Panel Makes It Worse
Heat speeds up evaporation, so water left on a sun warmed bonnet dries faster than the same water would on a cool panel in the shade, giving minerals less time to run off and more tendency to bond to the surface where they sat. A car washed at midday in direct Dubai sun, or simply left to air dry outside afterward, is giving those mineral deposits the exact conditions they need to become visible spots.
Surface Deposits Versus Actual Coating Failure
Fresh mineral deposits sitting on top of the coating usually wipe away with a proper spot remover and a microfiber towel, no polishing required, which is a sign the coating itself is fine and this is just contamination on the surface. Reduced beading, a duller finish overall, or water sheeting unevenly across the whole car are the signs that point to the coating actually wearing down, which is a different problem with a different fix.
Washing and Drying Habits That Actually Help
Wash and rinse in the shade or during cooler parts of the day rather than under direct midday sun, and dry the car with a clean microfiber towel or blower rather than letting water air dry on its own. None of this is complicated, it just needs to be consistent, since a single hot, sun dried wash can leave spots that a shaded one would not.
